The living was easy in New Orleans for my first visit. The food lived up to its billing, the music and the party were electric, and the culture was unique. I even allowed myself to be photographed.
We visited the cemeteries, the museums, the restaurants – including Antoine’s, Commander’s Palace, Napoleon House, Tujague… too many to list. It was an experience.
However, the hurricane from ten years ago can still be felt – in the damage to some neighborhoods, the still-vacant houses, and even in the voices around the city.
I have never been to a place that mixes life so effortlessly with death, and death within life, like a cocktail that goes down so smoothly.
