The Cracked Eye published a short story of mine this weekend. It’s about four friends who make horrific choices one fateful 1980s night in Atlantic City. File it under “C” for Cautionary Tale.
The story is based on a rather tame excursion taken by a few New Jersey fools around the turn of the millennium. They know who they are, and they know whether Lady Luck can indeed come alive over the phone.
As an aside, I think a dear friend of mine and I were up something like five figures on the roulette wheel before squandering it all and ending up where we started. I think the Stendahl metaphor (the Red and Black) worked just the opposite for me.
